Located in the heart of the Maremma region, surrounded by a landscape that is unforgettable, and immersed in a culture of popular and culinary traditions that have made this part of Italy unique, Podere Carceroni reveals itself as a special setting at the very first glance.
A place to spend a romantic weekend, or leisurely evenings with the family, a place to organise a meeting with colleagues, or just to relax for an afternoon, a place to taste prestige wines and try out some of the local cheeses with Valeria, your hostess.
Valeria, Roman by birth, and an architect, decided to leave her career in Milan to follow her passion as chef and sommelier, opening a farmhouse holiday villa with her husband, with whom she shares her passion for fine wines.
And so the idea was born to bring the farmhouse of Podere Carceroni back to life, to create a place where gourmet food and fine wines are combined with flare and creativity in an unforgettable setting.
When we saw Podere Carceroni for the first time, it was little more than a ruin, but it was so full of fascination we felt at home right away.
We began to work on the reconstruction of the farm house, providing it with all modern home comforts, but taking enormous care not to alter its essential atmosphere with too many architectural changes.
In Podere Carceroni we have created a warm inviting atmosphere, where we want our guests to relax and feel completely at home. You can taste genuine products from the local Maremma region, discover the beauty of the countryside on foot, on horseback or on mountain bike, or you can simply relax by the pool and absorb the landscape.
First and foremost, Podere Carceroni is a place which we have chosen to live in as our family home, but a home which is always open to friends and guests who want to relax, drink a glass of fine wine, or simply forget the stress of daily life for a few days looking up at a starlit sky.
When we decided to create our Bed & Breakfast, we wanted to maintain the former layout and lifestyle of Podere Carceroni.
In order to create a warm and inviting environment without changing the previous building, we placed the project in the experienced hands and excellent taste of the architect Edoardo Milesi, who had already been responsible for the restoration of the Castello di Colle Massari and the Castello di Vicarello.
With him, we studied every detail with the utmost care, selecting finishes and materials which were typical of local tradition: stone, wood and terracotta.
We took special care to search for hand made terracotta flooring produced by local craftsmen, and natural pigment paints for the walls.
We took our inspiration from the natural and historical heritage of the splendid Maremma region, making it our own, and continuing the style of a region where tradition is still all-important; within the walls of Podere Carceroni we created a hundred tiny details which give it a unique style, all waiting to be discovered.
